About Us

Karie Hartle-Poirier, Founder/Owner, CDA

Seaway Speech was founded with a passion for helping individuals reach their full communication potential.

Karie has both professional and personal experience in the Speech & Language Industry. A mom of two boys with her youngest having special needs, she is compassionate and dedicated to making a difference. Believing in the importance of building confidence while utilizing strengths to target goals and advocating through team collaboration.

Her professional experience includes working for the school board as well as private speech therapy focusing on a variety of targeted goals including early intervention, speech sounds/articulation, receptive and expressive language skills, literacy, grammar, social/pragmatic skills, phonological awareness, and Augmentative & Alternative Communication/AAC. She is comfortable working  with a variety of populations and diagnoses including Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Sensory Processing Disorder, Attention-deficit/hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), as well as with non-verbal children using AAC devices and has created a variety of visual aids to assist families. Karie uses a person-centered, fun, and creative approach and has a natural ability to connect with clients and collaborate effectively with others.

Mary Barlow, B.Sc. Hons., CDA

Mary is a graduate of the Durham College Communicative Disorders Assistant Post-Graduate program, achieving the Dean's list each term. She also holds an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto with a double major in Linguistics and Psychology.

Mary has worked with a variety of pre-school aged children with a wide range of physical, cognitive, and communicative abilities including apraxia, alternative and augmentative communication (AAC), phonological disorders, dysfluency disorders and various areas of language and articulation delays. 

Mary worked with various high and low tech AAC devices including Picture Exchange Communication Systems (PECS), core boards, communication books, Proloquo2Go, TouchChat, GoTalk Now, and LAMP Words For Life.

Mary also worked with school-aged children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) providing in-home support. As a behaviour therapy assistant, she implemented principles of Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) to improve communication, social and behavioural skills. She also completed Joint Attention, Symbolic Play, and Engagement Regulation for Children with Autism (JASPER).

Mary is a compassionate and enthusiastic clinician that develops individualized therapy sessions catering to client needs and goals.


Nichole Summerfield,
M.A SLP, Reg. CASLPO

Nichole Summerfield and Mandy Head are graduates of Wayne State University with extensive experience working with preschool and school-aged children in both school and clinical settings.

They share a strong vision of supporting children in reaching their full potential and are passionate about providing high-quality, child-centered care.

Nichole and Mandy are thrilled not only to be part of Well Spoken Speech and Language Services (www.wellspoken.ca), but also to be joining the Seaway Speech team.
